Hung or un-hung, it’s all getting a bit tedious now is it not? Yawn. Let’s talk of other things.
Margate was in the grip of a a very chilly tyre fitter’s hand this weekend which put paid to any thoughts of outdoor pursuits. The nearest the allatsea household got to to fresh air adventure was a trip to Tescos in the dead of Friday night (fewer oiks with their oik children polluting the aisles that time of day) and a quick motor to 143 on Saturday afternoon. Hardly the stuff of dreams.
Sunday was spent entirely in front of the Dell which had been newly loaded with the free to download software, Audacity. Audacity is a recording and audio editing package similar to the very posh but expensive Cubase. The existing DAW stuff that I’d been using, Guitar Tracks 3 didn’t work overly well with Vista and I fancied a change. We don’t record directly into it, rather a Zoom H4 is used to take the recording and the files are transferred into Audacity for editing and general tweaking. So far it seems pretty good to use but time will tell.
With no children/mortgage/ fast car habit and a general aversion to expensive holidays it’s quite (and I’m thankful) easy to build a wodge of dosh to spend on toys. For the last 11 years the toys have been mainly in the form of guitars and guitar based ‘stuff’. For the last 11 years allatsea has also expended considerable wonga, effort and time in learning to play these guitars. Frankly he shouldn’t have bothered. Progress since week 3 (in 1999) has been almost zero.
This lack of progress and overall ghastliness with the 6 string wank machines is never more noticeable than when a £3000 hand made Atkin 00 is recorded (carefully, on a Zoom H4) and then played back at a zillion Watts through the Dell based Audacity. Even when tweaked, normalized, pitch corrected and balanced for regular beat, it still sounds like……. well, shite really.
Bobby Shaftoe anyone?? Err one and two and three……….
