Thursday travel

A very noticeable nip in the air this morning. The brave and hardy souls shuffling about on platform 3 at Margitt appeared to have been caught on the hop, insufficient threads and much shivering in evidence. Back in 2004 when allatsea first became a commuter, there were only around half a dozen of so peeps getting on the early Cannon Street trains. Nowadays it’s a veritable mass, in relative terms.
Thinking about it, in those days, the excitement of it all used to keep allatsea gazing out of the window all the way up the line (sad chap), now his eyes are closed around 5 milliseconds after sitting down. The 105 minute journey goes by in a gentle fuzz of half dreams and seat wriggling. It’s far from unpleasant truth be told. The trip home however is a different beast. It’s all tedium and conscious time wasting and irritation with oiks and signal failures. It all comes down to the travelling demography (which changes for the worst once you disgorge the city passengers in the Medway and reload with the oiktrash bound for Sittingbourne and Faversham) and state of mind. Very often the only way to deal with it is to exclude all external sound by wearing earphones (ideally with Porcupine Tree playing at high volume) and additionally, preferably, by being very drunk. I find the latter an excellent way to travel, albeit fraught with risk.
Gin anyone?

About allatsea

Sixty year old master-mariner. Absolutely gorgeous. Well wedged.....when compared to a Nairobi street urchin. Sorted, in that I haven't been in court recently. Hopelessly optimistic, terminally disappointed. Good with cats and other fluffy things. No musical talent. Generous to a fault provided it's someone else's round. Political centreist with far right and left viewpoints. A green activist from the hydrocarbon position with nuclear leanings. Averse to avarice but always happy to receive lottery wins, gifts, windfalls, legacies, prizes and wet sloppy kisses.

All is sweetness and light, and a smell of petroleum pervades.

It’s coming on nicely, with good old Allatsea humour and without excess Towers comment to cause problems. Keep up the good work. I have stopped Warranty Surveying due to lack of work and have taken up Film Scriptwriting instead. No money in it, but at least there are some laughs. A blog may come up before Christmas.
