It’s twenty minutes to lunch and Cook’s on 112, Bell 5. Kind of hoping that Cook will get a double Ton and Bell will carve out a cool single wun. Cook’s survived two appeals by review and the Aussies are fuming, wonderful stuff. Incongruous to be watching all the tension and carnival in the dead of a very quiet Westbrook night. Adds to it somehow.
In 1997 I bought 7500 shares in a Chinese oil services company called Fortune Oil. I was following a hot tip. Alas the tip had included the caveat ‘buy at 4.5 p’. I bought at 14.75. They plummeted almost immediately and have stayed low since, at one time scraping along at less than a penny. Today, thanks to the ease of online trading and a very recent surge in value, I finally got rid of them at 12p. I know we’re not talking huge piles of wonga here and we’re still talking ‘LOSS’ but it’s something that’s irritated moi for over a decade and I’m feeling almost smug to be rid of the damned things.
On a happier and more lucrative note (though not very ecologically friendly….. apparently) the allatsea capitalist empire (ahem) took the profit on a tranche of New Britain Palm Oil equities. Bought 2 years ago at £2.25 and sold at £8.61. Thankyou lordy of fiscal sailors. Now perhaps he can turn his attention to the debacle that is Premier Foods and UK Coal. Sleep would be a lot easier if he did.
The Porcupine Tree playing live at Tilburg DVD finally arrived from Amazon today. Hands up if you’re an old progger (me me me me me me ), I’ll let you have a lend, so to speak. They are wonderful performers live, slick as hell. So glad they started using the extra guitarist/vocalist (John Wesley) on the live shows. Makes a huge difference, much more listenable, imho of course.
274 for 5 and one more over before lunch. Hang on in there lads, I want to be able to ring bro in Oz and gloat. Allatsea know’s not the concept of humility on these matters.
