Start the new job tomorrow. Excited but a bit nervous too. It’s only 5 miles away. No 2 hour each way commutes anymore (well, for now anyway), just a few minutes in the old red Nissan. Smashing.
Two downers though. Spoke to my dear friend in the US, he’s been ill a while. Things not going too well at the moment. In a Dallas hospital with terrible pain and they can’t seem to get it under control. Horrible horrible horrible. To be honest I’m surprised. Obviously they aren’t able to cure or sort all ailments but I didn’t realise that they also couldn’t always control pain. That’s a bit of a thunderbolt to allatsea and he feels dumbstruck and very upset. Hmmm.
Secondly, the main concern about leaving the warm and safe environs as a staffer with Nobby Dees was that of any ill health. As self employed ‘consultant’ a chap can’t afford to be off work with a dose of the gremlins, it’s no good for him or the chap he’s contracted too. Thus, almost predictably, just about every day since allatsea walked down Tabernacle Street for the last time, he’s had some kind of ‘oddity’ going on that’s been (to him at least) a cause for concern. The most recent of those oddities was getting bacterial conjunctivitis on Christmas day. Perfect timing I thought.
Well that escalated a bit to being a bit painful (as opposed to just irritating) in the eyes department and for the last 4 mornings, almost at identical times, a blinding, literally, migraine type thing above the left eye which last about 90 minutes and then goes as quickly as it came with no evidence of ever having been there at all. Bearing in mind that I am a bit of a manwuss and may overstate the case at times, the pain when it does arrive really knocks me flat, I can’t se properly and get very dizzy. Have to lie down until it goes. Spooky and a bit worrying too. This is all very inconvenient if it happens at work tomorrow. Bad start all round, first impressions are lasting impressions and all that.
So be it. I’ve got my fingers crossed though, and my toes. Night night.
