On March 26th, at 2330 UK time, my bestest and oldest mucker, Kevin, died. The big C got him despite 2 years of intensive and cutting edge treatment and, a will to survive that was tangible from half a world away. I am so very very very sad. I hadn’t sobbed for many years but I have this week. I sob because the world is a poorer place without him in it and beause of the ghastly emptines that his wife and three children must be feeling now and, because, to my surprise and probably because I’m selfish, I feel alone. I’m not of course, but that’s how it feels at the moment.
His family, including his UK based siblings were at his bedside when he departed. They held a memorial service for him in Dallas yesterday, where his workmates were abe to attend and then, once the seemingly inerminable paperwork is completed, he’ll be flown to Santiago in Chile (his home) for the funeral. There will be a UK service for him in time.
In the meantime folks, be guided, this life is not a rehearsal, grab every moment you can, and savour.

About allatsea

Sixty year old master-mariner. Absolutely gorgeous. Well wedged.....when compared to a Nairobi street urchin. Sorted, in that I haven't been in court recently. Hopelessly optimistic, terminally disappointed. Good with cats and other fluffy things. No musical talent. Generous to a fault provided it's someone else's round. Political centreist with far right and left viewpoints. A green activist from the hydrocarbon position with nuclear leanings. Averse to avarice but always happy to receive lottery wins, gifts, windfalls, legacies, prizes and wet sloppy kisses.
