In March 1986 the allatsea family bought the Quart in a Pint Pot freehouse in Margate. It cost £149,000.
A lifetime later, in September 1995, having been on the market for nearly 5 years, they sold it. Not for the sum of £330,000 that the agent originally suggested, but the more modest sum of £93,000. Ouch!!!!!
As of this week, it’s back on the market, 25 years on from our first, expensive foray into the world of licensed trade. It’s to be sold at auction and the guide price is a dizzying £110,000. Now then, who was it that said that you can’t beat putting your money into bricks and mortar for security? I’d like to meet them again, and offer a counter point of view.
