Emptiness and happiness

Margate seafront in snow 1

The picture above was taken on or around December 17th 2010. It’s the seafront at Margate. It was a Saturday afternoon and allatsea was walking home to Westbrook from the RBL club in Margate. The traffic in the photo was at a standstill. A lot of snow fell very rapidly and people were taken by surprise.

The photo below is of Margate main sands taken more or less at the same time.

That winter and the two after that were similarly cold and snowy. Being a bit slow on the uptake, we at the towers finally got around to putting winter tyres onto one of the jamjars at the start of the winter in 2013. The result of course was that we’ve had the wettest winter on record and indeed, the mildest.

Finally for today, in the picture above, nothing to do with winter, tyres or Margate. Backing in close to the Maersk Half Dan field complex on a  Farstad ‘flexibles’ installer. That’s one pretty crowded deck.

While I’m on, a shameless plug for a new page on the brother site for those of you wot like looking at pics of nautical stuff.

About allatsea

Sixty year old master-mariner. Absolutely gorgeous. Well wedged.....when compared to a Nairobi street urchin. Sorted, in that I haven't been in court recently. Hopelessly optimistic, terminally disappointed. Good with cats and other fluffy things. No musical talent. Generous to a fault provided it's someone else's round. Political centreist with far right and left viewpoints. A green activist from the hydrocarbon position with nuclear leanings. Averse to avarice but always happy to receive lottery wins, gifts, windfalls, legacies, prizes and wet sloppy kisses.
