Obituary for ‘dear’ old Bobby.

The following received from Ken Chamberlain. Many thanks Ken.

It’s a cutting from a local newspaper in 1944 reporting on the death  and funeral of Robert the Devil (Robert Austin). Accounts of Robert’s lifestyle seem, in the main to essentially ‘lionise’ him. To make him out to be a ‘character wot dun good’ so to speak.

Allatsea remembers well, stories from his grandma (Robert’s daughter) describing him as  a horrible man. A man who would spend most of his money in the pub, then roll home drunk throwing the last of his coins to children in the street leaving his wife and family with nothing.

About allatsea

Sixty year old master-mariner. Absolutely gorgeous. Well wedged.....when compared to a Nairobi street urchin. Sorted, in that I haven't been in court recently. Hopelessly optimistic, terminally disappointed. Good with cats and other fluffy things. No musical talent. Generous to a fault provided it's someone else's round. Political centreist with far right and left viewpoints. A green activist from the hydrocarbon position with nuclear leanings. Averse to avarice but always happy to receive lottery wins, gifts, windfalls, legacies, prizes and wet sloppy kisses.
