The cruise ship Boudicca, owned by Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, suffered a fire in her engine room at around 4am this morning while sailing off the coast of Casablanca, Morocco.

Fred Olsen Cruises notes in a statement, the ship is now proceeding toward the Canary Islands and there have been no injuries. Besides a few cabins without power, “most services are operating normally” on board the ship, according to the ship owner.

“We are reviewing the itinerary and assessing the extent of the damage to the two main engines and electrical cables, and will make any repairs necessary at the next port of call. A revised itinerary will be advised in due course.”

Boudicca is on an 18-night ‘Cape Verde & the Canaries’ cruise, which departed from Southampton on 20 January 2015. The ship sailed from Cadiz, Spain on Saturday 24 January 2015, and was scheduled to arrive in Arrecife, Lanzarote tomorrow morning, Monday 26th January 2015.

About allatsea

Sixty year old master-mariner. Absolutely gorgeous. Well wedged.....when compared to a Nairobi street urchin. Sorted, in that I haven't been in court recently. Hopelessly optimistic, terminally disappointed. Good with cats and other fluffy things. No musical talent. Generous to a fault provided it's someone else's round. Political centreist with far right and left viewpoints. A green activist from the hydrocarbon position with nuclear leanings. Averse to avarice but always happy to receive lottery wins, gifts, windfalls, legacies, prizes and wet sloppy kisses.
