Greed, cars, high tide.

See the house in the picture below? It’s modestly sized and has seen better days. Until recently  it was home to a single old lady who had lived there for years. Story has it, they were very contented years. Then, sadly she died and the house was sold to a property developer. Said developer , so the street talk has it, is an ambitious chap who counts several dozen Costa franchises within  his business portfolio. He’s clearly a man who counts the bottom line as being far more important than any other consideration. He plans to turn what was a property that housed one sweet old lady into no less than five self contained flats. Hmm, the new occupants are  not going to have much room to live in are they. Still, what the fuck does that matter? Five flats punted out at say £150,000 each is going to bring in loads more mawonga than a single four bedroom house in this part of the world! Sod the poor and the needy, cram as many of the poor sods in as you can. Sod decency, sod standards, bring on greed. Let’s hope he, the developer,  catches something ghastly soon or better still, a conscience? We live in hope.

Where once was was one will soon be 10 or 12 or 14 or more.

Meanwhile darn the road at Ramsgate, Port Ramsgate in fact, things are on the up. The commercial part of the port which has been idle for the last couple of years has been thrown a lifeline of sorts. The car carrier folks are bringing in a ship every week or so, loaded with Citroens and similar. The French jamjars are unloaded from said ship, parked on the apron and then ferried away to destinations new throughout Blighty by car transporter-lorry-machine-things. Let’s hope it’s the start of a brighter future for the place.

About allatsea

Sixty year old master-mariner. Absolutely gorgeous. Well wedged.....when compared to a Nairobi street urchin. Sorted, in that I haven't been in court recently. Hopelessly optimistic, terminally disappointed. Good with cats and other fluffy things. No musical talent. Generous to a fault provided it's someone else's round. Political centreist with far right and left viewpoints. A green activist from the hydrocarbon position with nuclear leanings. Averse to avarice but always happy to receive lottery wins, gifts, windfalls, legacies, prizes and wet sloppy kisses.
